Youth Characteristics - Massive Growth and Development

The number one characteristic of  a youth is MASSIVE GROWTH AND DEVELOPNMENT

 

Youths

            Growth is defined as an irreversible increase in size and height. It allows for continuity of life. Several signs of growth and Development take place in all parts of the body. There are marked changes and differences in boys and girls. In females at the ages of ten and below, there is not much rapid growth. This is the age of early adolescence. They are not yet Youths in the actual sense. But from the age of ten and above, lots of physiological and behavioural changes are witnessed. The youth period process has started. They begin to know and take better care of themselves. Personal cleanliness becomes one of their priorities. During this time of being youth, they develop breasts, with round and robust bodies. They also begin to put on flesh, grow hairs at the armpits as well as in other private areas. Their voices become shrill and thinner. 

An outstanding feature is the issue of the youth period in females of menstruation. Menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining due to fall in progesterone level. It lasts for about 1-5 days. When the ovum matures, the uterus is highly nourished, with the uterine lining being richly supplied with blood vessels under the influence of progesterone (A pregnancy hormone). The uterus is ready for pregnancy. When no pregnancy occurs, the progesterone level falls. And these results to the shedding of the uterine lining called menstruation. This is why most young girls become very afraid whenever they do not witness their period; especially those who are guilty of premarital sex; because it is a sign of pregnancy. This youth period of menstruation is very critical and requires maximum care and protection. Counseling is also necessary. This is not far from the fact that majority of them, especially the ignorant ones witness this inherent and unavoidable moment without knowing its full complications. The role of parents and other relevant authorities in this sphere of youth period should not be overemphasized.

            In males youths, there are also significant changes. Boys tend to appear neat as they grow from boyhood to manhood (The youth intermediary). They grow in size and height with the development of muscular bodies. Hairs as well as beards develop on appropriate areas. Their voices become deeper and coarse. They often have “wet dreams” at night. These and several others are the outward and biological manifestations of a youth. They connote growth and maturity. They are signs of youthful period. Every youth should beware that they are bound to take place. They are inescapable, and should be gracefully accepted as far you love being a youth.
