YOUTH ISSUES - YOUTHS AND FRIENDSHIP (2)

This is a continuation of this the first part of the first part of this topic: (YOUTH ISSUES - YOUTHS AND FRIENDSHIP (1)) you can read it first to appreciate this continuation of it.

The final question is: who could be my friend? Having known oneself, identified the qualities that one possesses, and ascertained one’s goal and purpose in life; ‘who could be my friend’ becomes explicit. As aforementioned, a friend is a treasure, an elixir of life. In fact, a friend is another self. A friend is someone who can, and is ready to stand in place of me in any circumstance. It is someone who can pull through with me in any situation.  A person who is ever ready to assist in the actualization of my possibilities - that is a true friend. The question: “who could be my friend?” Can be addressed more appropriately as: who could be I? The Holy Bible in the book of Sirach (Sir. 11: 29 33, 37: 1 —6) rounds it off:
Be careful about the kind of people you invite into you
home because clever people can fool you in many ways.
A proud person is a decoy to lure you into danger. Like
a spy, he will look for your weakness, He will make
good appear evil and find fault with the noblest action.
A single spark can set a pile of coals ablaze, and as sinner
is just waiting for a chance to use violence. Watch out for
such people and their evil plans; they will ruin you
permanently. Anyone can claim to be your friend,
but some people are friends in name only. The
grief caused when a close friendship turns sour is
as bad as death. This evil impulse we have!
Why was it ever formed? How did it manage to cover
the earth with deceit? Some people will be your friends
as long as things are going well with you, but they will
turn against you when trouble comes. A real friend will
help you against your enemies’ and protect you in the
fight. Never forget such companions in battle. Share
the results of your victory with them.
                                                                                                        Sir. 11:29—33; 37: 1-6
To my dear and fellow youths, tell me your friend and I will tell you who you are. Treat your friends in a way that one day they may turn foe. Remember that doing favor is not the best way of making friends. The strongest bound of friendship is a mutual enemy. It is better to have a good enemy than a bad friend. A word is enough for the wise man.
